Through a sheer dose of luck, good fortune and serendipity, a driver escaped with only a minor injury after his car was crushed by a trailer truck in the Tuas tunnel yesterday.
If you were passing by the scene of the accident along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) at 3pm on Wednesday, you too would’ve believed that the driver got pulped in the wreckage. But nay — the 45-year-old man only suffered a mere cut, according to The Straits Times. He was sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital soon after.
The trailer had been travelling on the extreme left lane of the tunnel, but was forced to swerve to its right after a car in front of it slowed abruptly. The trailer ended up colliding with the car, squashing it to the wall of the tunnel.
Pictures taken at the scene showed the car as a pile of twisted metal — and nobody would fault the man who escaped that wreckage for believing in a higher power now.
Police investigations are currently ongoing.
