This morning (June 1), a traffic police officer died after he was hit by a vehicle along Serangoon Road. Staff Sergeant Nadzrie Matin, 29, was performing traffic patrol duties in the vicinity when the accident occurred around 10.40am. He was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The police have arrested the 52-year-old driver of the van involved in the accident for a negligent act causing death.

Earlier today, photos and videos circulating on social media showed the officer lying motionless on a grass patch, with a wrecked Traffic Police bike nearby. The police are appealing to the public not to share these videos and images out of respect for the family of the deceased.

In a statement, Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck said he was “deeply saddened by the sudden loss” of Staff Sergeant Nadzrie, a “dedicated and well-liked officer” who had joined the Singapore Police Force in 2009.

Investigations are ongoing.
