Toyota Crown taxis gone forever by end this month

The last operating Toyota Crown taxi will be scrapped by the end of this month, The Straits Times reports.

The “roomy and reliable” model is being discontinued as it’s unable to meet the current Euro IV emission diesel standards, applicable to vehicles registered after September 2006. Those registered before this time will still have to be removed from the streets as taxis in Singapore only have a ‘lifespan’ of eight years.

The Toyota Crown taxis boast the cheapest flag-down rates in the city: $3. With these gone, the cheapest flag-down rate will be $3.20, for taxi models like ComfortDelGro’s Hyundai Sonata.
