Toshiba’s pulling out of Singapore market due to strong competition

Do you remember the last time you really, really wanted a Toshiba appliance? Neither could we.

The Japanese company are reported to be pulling out from the television and appliances market in Singapore at the end of this month due to strong market competition.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Toshiba Singapore have been sending out notices to its retailers stating that some of their products will be withdrawn from the local market.

Some of Toshiba’s products include home appliances, office equipment, entertainment systems, and televisions.

Even though some of their products will no longer be available in Singapore, their after-sales customer service will continue until further notice.

This would not be a worry to big-time retailers such as Courts, Harvey Norman, Best Denki and the likes. Toshiba leaving the local market however is a worrying fact for smaller retailers operating in the heartlands, who may stock quite a number of Toshiba-made items in their shops.

Competition is indeed stiff with brands such as South Korea’s Samsung and LG and fellow Japanese electronics giant Sony being more of the preferred choice here. Nice knowing you, Toshiba.
