Tortoise gets shell-shocked while crossing at Seletar Dam; promptly gets rescued by motorist

When they’re not being improperly released into lakes and rivers (PSA: tortoises can’t swim, turtles can), tortoises generally live a pretty chill life in the Singaporean wilderness.

So chill that one of them decided to take a stroll across Seletar Dam — a stretch of road that’s often seen speeding motorists.

Fortunately, Lady Luck was smiling on the dawdling reptile that day as motorists managed to slow down and avoid running over it. A little shell-shocked from all the hullabaloo, it withdrew into its carapace. And right smack in the middle of the three-lane road, too.

Watch below as a motorist swiftly rescues the tortoise from certain roadkill and drops it off somewhere to the side of the road. Presumably, the little critter went off to take a break at the…. Shell station.
