Toronto may copy Singapore’s free early bird subway program

Toronto may take a page from Singapore’s public transit playbook and allow free transit for early birds.

Indeed, a mayoral candidate for Canada’s largest city, David Soknacki suggested Friday that Toronto implement a program similar to Singapore to improve rush hour congestion, the Toronto Star reported.

Singapore’s successful free MRT program – which allowed for free rail travel before 7:45am on weekdays to 16 of the busiest MRT stops – was announced back in April 2013.

Just two months back, the program was extended another year to last till 23 June 2015.
