In news that should by now be an annual routine, Changi Airport is once again deemed the World’s Best Airport — a title that’s been held by Singapore’s aviation jewel for the fifth year in a row.
Skytrax World’s Best Airport Award 2017 was conferred on Changi Airport yesterday at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with Changi Airport Group CEO Lee Seow Hiang happily accepting the plaque.
“Winning the Skytrax World’s Best Airport Award for the fifth consecutive year is immense encouragement to our 50,000-strong airport community at Changi Airport, every one of whom is passionate about delivering the most memorable airport experience to our passengers,” Lee said.
The award was based on a survey that involved 13.82 million customer nominations across 105 nationalities, with Changi taking the top spot out of the 550 airports worldwide that took part. Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), Incheon International Airport and Munich Airport trailed close behind at second, third and fourth place respectively.
Key performance indicators for airport service and product include elements such as shopping, security and comfort during arrivals, transfers and departures. The fact that some of the airport’s security officers are total hotties doesn’t hurt either.
With the coming of Terminal 4 by the end of the year (also the country’s first checkpoint with biometric technology for facial, iris and fingerprint scanning) and Terminal 5 promising to be 10 times as big as VivoCity, it looks like Changi Airport might be holding on to the title for even longer over the next couple of years.
