In Singapore where everything runs on clockwork, it’s easy to take for granted the real heroes behind the scenes.
For TikTok user @sermangkok, a little act of kindness can go a long way towards recognizing the contributions of these unsung heroes.
The TikToker, whose real name is Mellisa Abdullah, is a content strategist in Singapore. She recently noticed a group of migrant construction workers hard at work all day outside her window and even saw them stop their work to help a cyclist who fell.
That’s when she decided to give them a sweet treat and put in a large order of bubble tea for the whole crew.

In the video she is seen handing out bubble tea to the workers with a voiceover that says, “In a world where you can be absolutely anything, be a bad beetch and spread kindness.” Wise words.
Needless to say, most of them looked really happy to receive an ice cold treat in the middle of the work day.
Mellisa told Coconuts that she highly respects migrant workers and has also worked with them closely.
“I’ve had dinner with them, interviewed them, taught them computer skills, and just became their friend all throughout my career. The more i do that the more i respect and look up to them,” she said.
Mellisa also shared that she met a migrant worker working for the Salvation Army who came to Singapore to start a non profit business to help other migrant workers here pick up English and computer skills so they can get out of construction, find more purposeful work and better their careers.
She added, “To move to another country to just to earn slightly more for your family back home just screams bravery to me. And not everyone can do that.”
Her act of kindness clearly resonated with viewers as the video has already racked up over 340,000 views.
In her caption on the video, Mellisa said that she had seen her mom do the same thing for migrant workers.
She also said, “The thing about kindness as well is never expect anything in return when you give. The universe will have kindness coming back to you one way or another.”
