Remember that The New Paper (TNP) story about Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew telling then 27-year-old girl Joan Sim to “get your PhD and your boyfriend” at an NTU forum?
If you don’t, a video of it has recently been uploaded on YouTube (watch it below) and it’s already got close to 90,000 hits.
In the video, MM Lee tells Sim not to “waste time” and that raising a family is “more important and more satisfying than (a) PhD”. He also wishes her good luck and hopes that she will successfully complete her studies and get a boyfriend so she can embrace her child-bearing years.
Two years have passed… where is Joan Sim now? If all has gone well she should be a doctor… and a girlfriend.
