Three men sentenced to jail for molest and rape of drunk pub waitress

Three men have been sentenced to jail in Supreme Court last week for conspiring to rape a pub waitress in a hotel room.

A drinking game with three patrons at a Boat Quay pub left the waitress, then 18-years-old, severely intoxicated and unable to fend for herself, The New Paper reports. The three men then took advantage of her inebriation by taking her to Hotel 81 Cosy in Chinatown for a forced foursome. After checking into a room around 3am, the three men molested her while only one of them raped her.

Hotel staff had tried to intervene repeatedly after hearing the girl’s screams, knocking on their door for five times and asking the men if she was all right. After the rape was committed, the men left the room while hotel manager Ng Kok Kean checked in on the girl. She was found in various states of undress and traumatized by the ordeal. The police were notified and the three men were later arrested before they could leave.

Brothers Calvin Tan Jian Wei and Edwin Tan Jian An were sentenced to 11 years in jail and eight strokes of the cane each for conspiring to commit rape. Their friend Ho Boon Sheng received a heavier sentence — 13-and-a-half years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane for committing rape.
