In January this year, a new Instagram account surfaced with a photo of a broken toilet seat. The Ultimate Toilet Rater, it was called, and it returned the next day with a 7/10 rating of the newly-renovated Downtown East restroom.
Since then, the Instagrammer has reviewed toilets good and bad at yoga studios and places such as Raffles City, Tanjong Pagar MRT, and the SEA Aquarium, taking a hiatus in February before coming back last month for more honest lavatory evaluations.
Done in a candid, slightly tongue-in-cheek way, the user behind the critiques explains, “I pee a lot, so I might as well rate the toilets.” Makes sense, because why not?
The concept isn’t novel — if you check out the Restroom Association (Singapore), you’ll find an entire directory listing “Happy Toilets” across the island — but we sure do appreciate the Toilet Influencer’s blunt, unreserved comments.
Plus, you’ll be happy to note that the Jewel Changi Airport toilet got an 11/10 score because it “smells like Hong Kong, clean like Japan,” while the one at 111 Somerset got a whopping 20/10, most likely ’cause it’s rarely frequented by the Orchard crowds.
