Thai chicken allowed into Singapore again

Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has allowed the import of frozen chicken from Thailand, after lifting a ban it oversaw nine years ago due to the avian flu epidemic.

The decision came about after the third Singapore-Thailand Enhanced Economic Relationship ministerial meeting (STEER) in October this year.

According to the Pattaya Mail, the lift on the Thai chicken ban projects a favourable image of Thailand’s poultry, which may lead other importers to do business with Singapore.

However, competition will be rife for Thai chicken exporters and they are encouraged to focus more on processed chicken products.
