The Woman in Black, one of the longest-running plays in the history of British theatre, will stage in Singapore this December.
Celebrating its silver anniversary with a national tour, the production will be led by its original West End director Robin Herford, who will also perform the role of solicitor Arthur Kipps, the story’s protagonist.
The tale of Eel Marsh House is based on a creepy novella published in 1983: young Arthur Kipps living in the remote town of Crythin Gifford is called upon to sort out the affairs of dead Alice Drablow. He arrives at the funeral and meets with a young woman dressed completely in black, after which unfolds his discovery of the house’s terrible secrets and the woman’s sinister intentions.
We’re expecting a theatre experience unlike anything we’ve ever seen or felt in an artificial environment — Hedford is known to immerse the audience in his set. The airconditioning is set to dip at uncomfortable temperatures, characters appear in your comfort zone and the show’s aesthetic, supported by sound efforts and sparse, strategic props, is film noir inspired.

The Woman in Black is presented by ABA Productions, and will show Dec. 11 — 15, 3pm, 8pm at the Kallang Theatre. Tickets are on sale now via Sistic for SGD68 — 128.
