In the latest accident to occur at Jewel Changi Airport’s newly opened Canopy Park, a 14-year-old girl sustained a cut under her right eye at the Mirror Maze on Wednesday around 5:15pm. The play area on the topmost level of the dome opened to the public on June 10, and it houses other attractions such as the Canopy Bridge, Discovery Slides, Petal Garden, and Hedge Maze.

The teenager’s aunt took to social media on Wednesday to urge parents to be mindful when letting their children play at Jewel’s attractions.

“Parents and children please be extra careful cause a few incidents have been reported,” she warned.

Along with the post, she attached a photo of her niece’s cut, saying the open wound took nine stitches to close up at Raffles Hospital.

She later updated her post on Thursday with a statement from Jewel that said “first aid was immediately administered by the attraction ranger on duty when the guest discovered the injury upon exiting the maze.”

This comes on the heels of another incident last Friday (June 14), where a woman tripped and fell at the Manulife Sky Nets, injuring her hand and bruising her arm. Her Facebook post on her experience, which quickly went viral as a cautionary tale, has since been made private.

Those involved in both accidents stressed that they were not accusing or blaming the facility, but instead wanted to bring awareness to parents and children, in the hopes that more precautions would be taken.

Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, a spokesperson from Jewel said that “there are safety advisories and on-ground reminders by our rangers who are stationed at all the attractions, regarding proper footwear, appropriate behaviour, minimum height requirement and adult supervision for young children.”
