Technical error leaves Battlestar Galactica rollercoaster riders dangling in mid-air at USS

As if riding a rollercoaster wasn’t scary enough, the fright levels got amped up to another level at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) yesterday when the ride stopped moving, leaving folks strapped and no where to go in mid-air.

The troubled Battlestar Galactica: Human vs Cylon rollercoaster acted up once again when a technical error struck at about 4pm. A witness who spoke to The Straits Times mentioned that the riders were left dangling for about 20 minutes before everyone was rescued.

“Standard operating procedures were followed to evacuate riders safely from the lower section of the ride,” said a Resorts World Sentosa spokesperson. The ride was resumed at 5.08pm after routine safety checks.

The world’s tallest duelling rollercoaster was meant to be USS’s main attraction, but it hit several snags since the doors to the theme park opened. The ride was closed for nine months in 2010 after one of its seats fell off during a routine safety test. After re-opening in February 2011, it had to be closed again in 2013 for a review, and finally was up and running again 22 months later.
