Tea shop Artea films video to prove that its ‘deceiving’ double-layered cup can actually hold 700ml of water

There has been much conversation lately about local tea brand Artea’s double-layered cup design after a Redditor exposed the brand for possibly deceiving its customers and reportedly only offering half the amount of tea as advertised because of the cup’s design. The Redditor even cut up the Artea cup to show that there is a smaller cup within the bigger cup that is holding the liquid.

Well, the brand has decided to take matters into their own hands and released a video on their Instagram page on Friday night to show that, yes, an Artea cup can hold about 700 milliliters of water (24.6 fl oz) as advertised.

Of course, the Instagram post reminds us that the weight of the cup is being measured here and helpfully places a “1 gram = 1 milliliter” conversion text to convert the scale’s weight reading into the cup’s volume reading.

The brand even posted a photo on their Facebook page showing that the inner cup’s contents, when emptied into a graduated cylinder, measure around 700ml and that the brand clearly remembers the science experiments they used to do as kids back in the school science lab.

Doesn't this remind you of that pesky science experiment when you had to read the meniscus of water in a cylinder? (Photo: Artea SG / Facebook)

If we could offer a tip here, it would be useful for the brand’s designated social media to step up their English game a tad bit. Words like “continuelly” do not exist in the dictionary and grammar such as “we are local brands in Singapore” is wrong if the sentence contains a singular subject, not a plural one.

Well, it is wrong unless, of course, Artea is planning to build more stores around Singapore. Going by the looks of its queues in their Vivocity outlet during their current 1-for-1 sale, they may need to start thinking of that.
