Beware, Jurong Point shoppers. The shopping centre’s Kopitiam food court recently experienced a cockroach infestation at two stalls, both of which have since been suspended for two weeks as a result of a few public health violations. The National Environment Agency (NEA) served suspension notices to both vendors over the past week and fined them $800 each.

Food stall no. 10 received 12 demerit points over the past year — half for the roach infestation and half for the use of dirty crockery — while food stall no. 18 failed to register a stall assistant, apart from its pest problem. The former will be closed until March 16, and the latter till March 22.

The NEA stated that any food licensee with a total of 12 or more demerit points over a 12-month period may have the licence revoked or suspended for two or four weeks. Plus, all food handlers at the premises would have to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course before resuming work.
