Survey: 2014 looking good for Singaporean job hunters

If you’re looking to start working or switch jobs, this is a good time.

A new global salary survey by recruitment consultancy firm Robert Walters reports that the Fair Consideration Framework will drive up wages across both permanent and contract positions. The survey results also hint that switching jobs may lead to higher pay, based on results showing an increment of between 15-20 percent for those who switched jobs in 2013.

There will be a higher demand for legal and compliance professionals as Singapore looks to strengthen its reputation as a financial hub. Professionals with special skills in the accounting and finance sector, in treasury and taxation for example, will experience the best surge in wages. In HR, employers will be looking for more flexibility through hiring more candidates on contract basis, especially junior executives and payroll staff.

Apart from recruiting, firms are also putting a greater emphasis on training. In fact, Toby Fowlston, managing director for Robert Walters Singapore told Channel NewsAsia, “With the increasing competition for top Singapore talent, firms are recognising the importance of developing existing employees with transferable skill sets.

He added , “This allows for more promotion opportunities from within and rewards employees with an expanded scope of responsibilities.”
