India’s Sun TV network has apologised for its false report on the Little India riot that happened Sunday, Dec. 8. The report had stated that 33-year-old Sakthivel Kumaravelu was pushed off the bus by a female bus driver, sparking a riot that saw Singaporeans and Chinese people attacking foreign indian workers.
The editor in charge of the network R. Umashankar, says that he takes responsibility for the erroneous report and has explained it was not in the intention of Sun TV to sow discord among the various communities in the city-state.
In the email to Singapore’s Consul-General in Chennai, Umashankar said that such error will not happen again and that the correct version of the incident with the same prominence and duration (watch it below, 10:47 — 12:24) was aired on Dec. 10.
