The Instagram scene in Singapore is rife with food pics styled within an inch of their lives. We’ve certainly got no lack in this area, yet two student-run accounts recently caught our attention.

Helmed by what appears to be two different classes from Riverside Secondary School in Woodlands, @twofourrrr and @rss_2.6 get major style points for making plain old canteen food look cool. It’s no easy feat either, seeing as how schools usually dish out their rice, noodles, and bread dishes with more flavor than flair.

Both accounts seem to have started out with standard class pictures and insider memes before recently moving on to styling the culinary arts in a similar aesthetic, leaving us wondering if this is some sort of school project or class competition between the two. It doesn’t stop with just the images, though. Earnest text, written food review style, accompany the snapshots, complete with accessories for garnish and credits to the team behind each post.

But hey, we’d rather show you than tell you. Behold, the likes of kaya toast, milo, char siew bao, mee goreng, and fried rice featured in flat lays by the secondary school students.

In the canteen of Riverside Secondary School, there are many widespread of various varieties of healthy food. However, there is always a long queue for the rice stall because of the fried rice that is topped with a sunny-side egg and a juicy tender chicken chop ($2). Everytime you slice a piece of chicken and put it in your mouth, you can taste the well-marinated chicken with barberque sauce. When you break the top layer of the egg yolk, the egg yolk breaks free and slowly ooze out like a molten stream of golden lava. The liquid melts in your mouth into a luxe creaminess. To balance out the plate full of tasty food, an ideal choice would be a cup of fruits. The fruit cup ($1) can be bought in the drinks stall, it contains slices of refreshing fruits such as honeydew and watermelon. Eating the cup of fruits quenches your thirst and completes the meal. By: Cassie Ma, Wong Yuxuan, Tam Yongyi, Narra Nitya, Mini Malavika

Situated at the heart of the north in Woodlands, Riverside Secondary School’s food is on a whole new level. When hungry, you will want something scrumptious and affordable. Stall 4, which sells chinese rice, in Riverside has exactly that! With a mix of fluffy white rice and firm brown rice, it is healthy and delicious. You can even add other items such as leafy vegetables, egg and meat. We have opted for the iconic set, fried egg and a chicken chop. The egg had a creamy yolk which was perfectly cooked, gooey on the inside, and the savoury white which had little crispy bits on the edges. It was a pleasure to eat as the yolk was perfectly cooked and it burst in your mouth when you eat it. There are also many choices of meat selections and decided on the one that is a rendition of the chicken chop’s meat. Bite into the chicken chop as you taste the well marinated meat. It was tender and juicy while the skin has the perfect crisp. The strong flavours of the marinated chicken filled your taste buds. The sauce was not the typical black pepper or mushroom sauce and instead was a sweet soy sauce. The sweet and savoury taste of the sauce explodes in your mouth on the first bite. In Riverside Secondary School, the school canteen offers a wide array of food varieties. One of it is the well known Char Kway Teow with a piece of chicken patty and dozens of been sprouts($3.10). Here is why you should visit stall 6 during your recess time. Their menu changes everyday to keep their patrons coming back to try new dishes. The Char Kway Teow was drizzled with the right amount of vegetable oil. Just enough to slide in my mouth. The noodles was made with flour that was chewy and soft. The meat was cooked to perfection with intense seasoning marinated overnight. When the order is made, the meat will then return to the pan for another fry on a hot vegetable oil. This ensures the patty is crispy enough for our appetite. Another interesting part of the dish was how the beanspourts contrasted with the hot dish. The bean sprouts were pan seared over high flame for a few seconds. After cooling down, its crunchiness remains even after one pushes it in their mouth. @craindee @abellicioussss @chyelouis @krishhnnaan

🍜😋👍🏻 Mee Goreng , Malay Noodles @RSS When it comes to cheap and good food in Riverside Secondary School, the first place that comes to mind is definitely the Malay Noodles stall. Its signature dish has to be the Mee Goreng. The dish itself is rich in flavour and piquant and have a complex harmony of herbs, spices and aromatics. The noodles’ fragrance aroma certainly brings in a hawker centre vibe to our school canteen which made us salivate. The chewiness and softness of the golden-brown noodles were seasoned with different spices to perfection which definitely heightened the flavour of the noodles. The noodles accompanied with the mixed vegetables complimented one another perfect.
