Nearly 20 years since it first premiered, local cult classic “kungfu-motorcycle-love story” Eating Air will soon be remastered to 4K HDR (that’s High Dynamic Range), thanks to media production company Mocha Chai Laboratories, which managed to track down its film negatives.

Released in ’99, the gangster film by Kelvin Tong and Jasmine Ng revolves around the tragic friendship between two ah bengs, whose criminal adventures through the drug world are punctuated with motorbike races and failed romances. But mainly, it’s a story about the struggles of finding redemption and love, and achieving personal dreams.

So don’t let this silly trailer turn you off the movie.

With Eating Air’s film negatives, Mocha Chai Laboratories can now bring the ‘90s darling to a whole new crop of audiences — it’s currently working with Tong and Ng to prep the film for Apple iTunes. Both directors have expressed excitement at seeing their movie refreshed for the modern age, and you should be too, regardless if you have or have not seen it.
