StarHub and Singtel wants a piece of that humongous Netflix pie

Well if you can’t beat them, join ’em. Who are the likes of StarHub, Singtel and Mediacorp when it comes to the worldwide TV streaming phenomenon that is Netflix? Nobody that’s who, so they’re all lining up to make friends with new kid in town.

“We are exploring a partnership with Netflix, so that our viewers will have the widest selection of content with the convenience of their StarHub set-top box,” said StarHub in a statement today. Of course, with StarHub recently launching their own streaming service — StarHub Go — they’d want to invest in even more content for their customers. Right now, StarHub Go’s main draws are Asian programming, sports matches and HBO.

As for Singtel, they’re seeing Netflix as complementary to their Pay-TV services, TODAY reports. “In view of offering even more quality content, we will be working closely with Netflix to deliver great promotions to our customers,” said Singtel executive Goh Seow eng.  “They can look forward to enjoying Netflix content on us soon, alongside our varied suite of quality entertainment for the family.”

Mediacorp’s own on-demand television service Toggle doesn’t even stand a chance (what’s Mata Mata next to House of Cards?). So they’re just leveraging on their strong library of meh local titles. “Toggle, Mediacorp’s over-the-top service, caters to this trend of on-demand viewing and has seen viewership quadruple in the last year.” said the head of Mediacorp’s Connectcted Media Anil Nihalani. “We offer original, unique local programmes, and we offer them without charge.”
