Update: St. Joseph’s student fell in common area after break, school says
A student at St. Joseph’s Institution was hospitalized today after falling on school property, an incident the school said was witnessed by others at the all-boys Catholic school.
Police told reporters this afternoon that they had been alerted to the incident this morning and that the teenager was still conscious when taken to hospital. The school’s principal said they were concerned about those who saw what happened.
“Some of our students witnessed the incident. The SJI pastoral team and counsellors have attended to them and their well-being,” a letter signed by school principal Adrian Danker said.
Danker said that he advised the secondary school’s parents and guardians not to share any photos or video of what happened, citing the police investigation and family’s privacy.
“We also ask for your help with any photos/video of the incident or the injured Josephian your child may have taken, or received,” he said. “Kindly assist the school by not posting or sharing them with anyone, anywhere or post any comments at this time.”
The police said that they did not suspect any foul play and did not mention whether it was an act of self-harm. Emergency responders said they were alerted at 11:40am and took the injured student to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The episode comes three days after another tragedy, the gruesome murder by axe of a student, struck Singapore’s elite River Valley High School.
