Police have arrested an Australian national in relation to the death of an elderly man two weeks ago after a glass wine bottle fell from an upper floor at a Tanjong Pagar condominium and struck him in the head.

The incident occurred on the evening of Aug. 18 at 18 Spottiswoode Park Road, police said in a statement today, adding that the 73-year-old man was unconscious when taken to the Singapore General Hospital at about 8:40pm. He died from his head injuries the next day.

Police did not clarify from which level of the 35-story condominium the bottle had fallen or how it came to fall.

The alleged culprit, a 47-year-old man, was eventually arrested on Wednesday and was to be charged in court today for causing death by a rash act.

If found guilty, the man could be jailed for up to five years, fined or both.

Media reports have identified the victim as delivery driver Nasiari Sunee and the accused as Australian Andrew Gosling.

According to The Straits Times, Nasiari was spending time with his family at the condominium’s barbecue pit area when an Italian wine bottle fell on his head.

The report added that Nasiari’s heart stopped three times during medical treatment before the family decided not to resuscitate him anymore when it stopped for the fourth time.
