Sports Hub in discussions to have Manchester United play at National Stadium

What do Manchester United and Sports Hub have in common right now? Truckloads of complaints and pertinent issues have been ailing both parties — one is putting up a disappointing performance without iconic manager Alex Ferguson, the other is a disappointing stadium wracked with teething issues.

In the near future, the fates of both ailing giants might intertwine according to The Straits Times. Sports Hub chief executive officer Manu Sawhney has revealed to the paper that discussions have been taking place between the Sports Hub and the English club. If all goes well, Manchester United will be playing on the National Stadium pitch some time next year.

Sawhney — who’s also on Manchester United’s board of directors — had already expressed his dream of seeing his club playing at his facility, and intends to bring the team to Asia more often.

The last time Manchester United’s first-team squad were here, they trashed the Singapore team so hard in an 8-1 victory at the old National Stadium in Kallang back in 2001.
