If you thought Decathlon outlets are already massive enough as it is, the sporting goods retailer are preparing to open its biggest store in Singapore next year.
Much more than just a simple warehouse filled with even more yoga mats and other athletic equipment, the 5,000 sqm Decathlon Singapore Lab will feature high-end tech like virtual and augmented reality simulations. Customers are able to get their foot scanned to try out various shoes and sneakers for example, while mobile payment capabilities will allow shoppers to use e-wallets and earn loyalty points.
Free-to-play areas, sports events, clinics, and workshops will also be open to customers, similar to what Decathlon’s three current stores already offer.
The Decathlon store itself will be located in Stadium Boulevard in Kallang, and is expected to open in January 2019. According to The Straits Times, the French brand signed a memorandum of understanding with Sport Singapore (SportSG) — the store now has a 15-year lease on the land.
Though the brand has been around since 1976, it was only in recent times that the largest sporting goods retailer in the world expanded to Singapore. They sure picked the right time to do so, especially since health, workout trends, and general #fitspo aspirations started becoming a proper craze here of late.
