When life gives you lemons, be one of the best lemonade makers in the world. One Subway sandwich maker — oh sorry, Sandwich Artist™ — went all the way to Washington D.C. to represent Singapore in a Subway sandwich-making contest and finished third in the world.
It’s no Olympic medal, but an impressive feat nonetheless for Ken Seah Weiguang, who works at the Subway outlet at Nanyang Polytechnic. As a manager overseeing training operations for six locations of the fast-food chain here, the man has been a Subway employee for eight years — long enough to hone his skills in crafting artisanal sandwiches.
The yearly Global Sub Jammers competition saw Seah competing with over 400,000 other Sandwich Artists™ from across the globe, and surprisingly, he’s the first ever international Sandwich Artist™ to ever finish in the top three podium. The competition is judged by speed, accuracy, and perfection of building a trademark Turkey Breast sandwich. Aside from Seah, the rest of the competitors in the top five are Americans, with a Lisa Mulligan from Florida coming out tops.
“It is a privilege and honor to be able to represent Singapore in this global competition,” Seah said. “Competition was tough especially with many other talented Sandwich Artists™, and I am proud to have come in third”.
The man took home a medal, a cash prize of USD2,000, and official bragging rights as one of the best sandwich makers in the world.
