Four government agencies — The Ministry of Health (MOH), National Environment Agency (NEA), Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) and Public Utilities Board (PUB) — are gravely concerned about a massive spike in food poisoning in the Owen Road area.
Altogether, over 180 cases of gastroenteritis were reported in the area alone, of which the authorities believe to be somehow linked to foodstuff from Pek Kio Market and Food Centre. As such, the premises have been closed for some serious cleaning and disinfection that will take place in the next two days.
The market will re-open on Friday, while investigations into the possible source of the outbreak are being conducted.
