To commemorate the nation’s Golden Jubilee and Singapore hosting the World Stamp Exhibition for the third time since 1995, SingPost is launching unique SG50 collector’s sheets tomorrow.
Those who once dismissed stamp collecting as a lame hobby will be converted into philatelists once they set their eyes on this collection of stamps. These are no ordinary little stickers, but little mini film reels which bring the history of Singapore to life. The first of its kind in Singapore, the SG50 special collector’s sheets are a series of augmented reality stamps and are best viewed with an app called “MARC”. Mark our words, you‘ll be blown away by what happens when you use this app to scan the stamp – a video montage of the Singapore story will appear.
Ms Peggy Teo, SingPost’s assistant vice-president of philatelic and stamps, told Channel NewsAsia: “Because this year is a very special year, we wanted to bring history to life through this small piece of stamp. Using the augmented reality, we then could have the history of Singapore, our Singapore story told through this tiny little stamp. And with the video, the montage, our history, what we have developed, basically the whole Singapore story comes to life from these sets of stamps.”
History buffs who are interested to learn more about the Singapore story through stamps can head down to the Singapore Philatelic Museum’s SG50 stamp exhibition starting from July 21, where they can also feast their eyes on rarely-seen original stamp artworks on display.
