A South Korean pastor was sentenced yesterday to eight weeks in prison for recording 12 upskirt videos in Singapore.
Jo Hang Jun, a 33-year-old Immanuel Mission Church pastor, pleaded guilty to five counts of insulting a woman’s modesty, with seven other charges for similar offences considered during sentencing, The Straits Times reported. The man had 127 obscene films on him, which really is the last thing anyone would expect of a respectable clergyman.
The court heard that Jo’s first offence took place on Dec 17 last year, when he used his mobile phone to record an upskirt video at an unknown location. Later on, he crept up on another woman wearing a blue skirt along an underground walkway at Braddell MRT station and recorded an upskirt video while standing behind her on an escalator.
Days later on Dec 19 and 20, Jo proceeded to record four more obscene videos of women at various places, including Bishan MRT station and a supermarket at Serangoon’s Nex mall, according to the ST court report. On Dec 29, his perverse spree continued with five more clips at Newtown and Rochor MRT stations.
But it was on that day that he was finally caught. Jo spotted his victim while riding on a Downtown Line train and followed her when she alighted at Bugis station. While recording a video of her on an escalator, a man saw what the pastor was doing, and immediately confronted him.
“The accused immediately turned off the recording mode and the entire footage, lasting a total of 12 seconds, was saved into his phone,” said the deputy public prosecutor in court. The man and the victim promptly escorted Jo to the control station, where the station master called the police.
The pastor could have been jailed for up to a year and fined for each count of insulting a woman’s modesty.
