Soup allegedly arrives with a bonus portion of boiled mouse for patron of Kong Kee Mutton Soup

You really can’t go wrong with mutton soup — it’s a solid, hearty broth that pleasurably warms up your insides with chunks of meat simmering in a harmony of aromatic herbs and spices.

But all that flavour still won’t mask the taste of rat.

Quek Yong Pheng took to Facebook to express his disgust after finding a wee mouse allegedly floating inside his savoury brew during a recent trip to Kong Kee Mutton Soup. The veracity of his story is unclear, but he did put up pictures of the unwelcome protein addition, where a shrivelled up mouse was laid beside his bowl.

It’s pretty surprising, considering the Jalan Besar eatery is one of the best places to get your fix of Chinese-style mutton soup in the country. Famed for their melt-in-the-mouth meat and smooth, balanced flavours, we doubt that their secret recipe includes mouse.

Kong Kee Mutton Soup hasn’t responded to the ratty find, but Quek looks to be making a report to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

Despite a similar incident of rodent-flavoured broth last year, we must remind unaware readers that rat is NOT a Singaporean delicacy.
