Sometimes, forum letters on The Straits Times are the best form of entertainment. In response to the newspaper’s story titled ‘More young people in Singapore staying single’, someone named Chua Boon Hou penned a note suggesting the absurd idea of building a singles’ village for the unattached to mingle.
“We have to think out of the box to increase the odds of a meeting exponentially,” he stressed.
Chua even took the liberty to map out a plan, detailing the need for low rental costs, small “shoebox-size” housing units, a ban on entertainment and wi-fi, and a community area for daily activities so singles can’t avoid one another.
He then ended his appeal on a positive note: “At the end of the day, even if one does not leave the village with a soulmate, one will leave with more friends than before.”
What do you think — was he taking the piss, or just naively earnest? If his aim was to amuse, the forum troll definitely succeeded.
Some netizens also jumped on board the joke with suggestions.
