Solar car model catches fire at Singapore Polytechnic lab; students evacuated during exam

Students of Singapore Polytechnic had to be evacuated this morning when a fire broke out inside one of the institution’s buildings.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the fire involved a solar car model, spreading plumes of smoke at the polytechnic’s Fabrication Lab around 10.30am. You could say that the solar car couldn’t handle the heat (ba dum tss).

Channel NewsAsia reports that around 50 students had to be evacuated in the middle of their exam, and that the fire was put out by staff before the SCDF arrived at the scene.

None of the students were injured, but three security officers had to be conveyed to National University Hospital due to smoke inhalation. The cause of fire is currently under investigation.
