Internet culture is weird and we know it, but nothing spells Internet humor best than the Wongnai Duo, who are known for having deadpan facial expressions and stares in their food reviews.
More importantly, the duo is also known for their table-slapping routine, where one person takes the first bite into a dish and slaps the table while his soul gets transported into a dramatic sequence over saxophone music, much to the chagrin of other diners who are seen staring at the duo’s weirdness.
Singapore had a chance to experience the Wongnai Duo treatment when the duo came over to film a food review covering Thai noodle store Kin Moo, located at Tan Quee Lan Street.
The review has several funny moments, from the duo frantically waving the Thailand flag once they step in the store, to them going into the kitchen to prepare the dish — all done without letting go of that deadpan stare.
Once it’s time for the duo to eat, one of them slaps the other person’s hand just as he is about to take a bite to remind him to “think about Thailand before eat”.
What follows next is a hilarious table-slapping sequence where the soul of one of the duo’s members gets transported into a slow-mo shot where he gets drenched in noodles and is holding an ax while straddling a water buffalo.
According to Mothership, the duo was also spotted in several other food spots in Singapore so we can’t wait to see what else the Wongnai Duo covers in Singapore.
The duo is made of characters Lamsong and Hoy Salah, played by Patipran Jankaew and Junapark Gunpo respectively. The character Hoy Salah was named as such because of his resemblance to Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah, according to the South China Morning Post.
