SMRT will increase salary of bus captains to match rival bus companies

Someone buy these guys a welcome drink! They may be competition, but SMRT bus captains owe their rivals Go-Ahead Singapore a thank you and maybe a few rounds of beer.

Days after the new bus operator announced a compensation package that’s bigger and better than what their counterparts are getting, SMRT today announced a “better and more competitive pay for bus captains and bus operations staff” as well as an “enhanced joining bonus and staff referral scheme.”

All hardworking drivers definitely deserve a pay rise. Well, everyone except this guy who gave the finger to a lorry driver. The current starting pay for SMRT bus captains is $1625, while both Go-Ahead, another new bus operator, and Tower Transit start at $1865, reports TODAY.

SMRT also announced that it will be increasing its manpower this year — hiring 700 more train staff and 500 bus staff. More buses will also be put on the road to reduce the waiting time for consumers.

There’s nothing like competition to make companies competitive, no?
