SMRT suspends bus captain who was photographed giving the finger to lorry diver

SMRT has suspended a bus driver who was photographed giving the middle finger to Alan Yap, a lorry driver who refused to give way to the driver who wanted to shift to his lane along Lentor Avenue.

“He signalled and immediately tried to filter, so I had no time to react and did not give way,” Yap told The Straits Times.

Yap took a picture of the misdeed and shared it on Facebook yesterday morning. “Can anybody help me to let him famous,” he wrote.

One commenter asked him, “Why do you want to do that? What will you get out of htis? Just send to their HQ to report will do.” To which an astute Yap replied, “Report no use one, company won’t do anything.”

Looks like Yap has the last laugh.

Some 20 hours after he posted the photo, it’s been shared over 4,500 times — alarming enough to pressure SMRT into issuing a statement and disciplining the driver.

“We understand that there is a post circulating showing one of our bus captains behaving badly. We apologise for this incident,” SMRT said in a statement on Facebook. “‪#‎SMRT‬ takes a very serious view about such bad behaviour.”

The bus captain has been taken off duty for further investigations.

The incident, SMRT clarified, “is certainly not representative of all the bus captains who proudly serve with SMRT, and who have been receiving compliments from you, our commuters.”
