SMRT rolls out human traffic light system

Singapore’s sole train operator SMRT announced today that two of their stations are testing a new human traffic light system.

The colour-code system helps you see if the station you’re entering is ‘Not Crowded’, ‘Slightly Crowded’, ‘Crowded’ or is experiencing a ‘Service Delay/Disruption’, and hopes to achieve “better journey planning” for passengers, who can now determine platform conditions before they ‘tap in’.

The stations that will be testing this for the next six months are Ang Mo Kio and Tanjong Pagar.

This follows SMRT’s existing overhead status updates, which display real-time information about the different lines running across the system.
