It’s never a good time for the lift to break down, but especially not for Singaporeans with disabilities on their way to see the doctor today.

A long line of restless seniors in wheelchairs were spotted at Novena station after the lifts were said to be offline. SMRT staff had no choice but to usher them to the nearby Tan Tock Seng Hospital for their appointments, according to a shout out they got on social media.

“Kudos to all the SMRT staffs at [N]ovena really well appreciated as the [queue] was insane as the lift was not in working condition. Each [and] every staff help every single elderly who have difficulties,” a Jamaliah Hassan said on a page usually reserved for gripes.

She also tagged the hospital and said she hoped it could forgive them all for being late, as it was out of their control.

Photos showed staff members helping a woman by hand up a staircase and operating the stairlift for those in wheelchairs.

SMRT did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
