Peter Quek has been harassing GrabCar drivers for nine months, since last November. The man, who’s in his 30s or 40s, would employ sneaky methods like making bookings for cabs in the middle of the night or giving fake pick-up locations and destinations. Once, he even requested for a ride to Pulau Ubin.
And after the cab driver arrived in the vicinity of his bogus pick-up point, he would offer flimsy excuses to avoid boarding the vehicle and claim that he had already flagged down another taxi. This would force the drivers to call off the booking — a detrimental move that would adversely affect their cancellation rate and decrease their incentive payment from Grab.
Quek even went as far as to badger a female GrabCar driver in WhatsApp messaging groups and Facebook discussion groups, making sexist comments and publicly posting photos of her son that he took from social media platforms.
The most incredulous part about all this is that Quek is reportedly an SMRT taxi driver.
He’s now made headlines for being the first reported case to receive a permanent ban from the ride sharing service after its drivers complained about his harassment methods.
SMRT is conducting investigations into the matter.
