If you’ve never heard of Vivo smartphones, don’t worry, we haven’t either. But the Chinese tech brand has achieved what the likes of Samsung, Apple, or any other tech giant failed to do — it developed the world’s first smartphone with an on-screen fingerprint scanner.

Though the long-awaited tech isn’t available just yet, Vivo has made a foray into the Singapore market, thanks to a partnership with Singtel and M1. Both major telcos have started offering Vivo’s V7+ and Y65 smartphones in their stores, and they’re surprisingly affordable, at S$469 and S$269 respectively, without a contract.
Though wallet-friendly, the phones don’t compromise in hardware specs. The V7+ comes with a 5.99-inch touchscreen display and a solid battery life, while packing a 16-megapixel rear camera and a whopping 24-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The Y65 is nothing to write home about, but it’s still a very decent Android smartphone for its price point. Since it’s probably mandatory for all smartphones today to have a Portrait mode, both phones have that feature as well.
Check ‘em out at Singtel and M1 stores if you’re up for a cheap handset upgrade; but for our money, we’d probably wait until Vivo launches phones equipped with in-display fingerprint sensors — or at least until Samsung announces its Galaxy S9.
