There are many uses for a child – emotional support, second Mario Kart player, menial labor. Now a resourceful Singapore parent has found they also make very handy protection devices.

“And the Mother of the Year Award goes to..,” it was captioned.

In footage of the moment, the seated woman assumed the airplane crash position and raised the small human before her to block the marine mammal’s enthusiastic spray. For his part, the boy seemed exhilarated as the sea lions keep splashing waves of water as instructed by their handlers.

The attention then shifts toward the mom and her super-soaker child, with other people in the audience laughing, pointing, and even filming them.

The internet scolds declared “child abuse;” others thought it was funny.

“I mean why else do you need kids for? Investment in future and protection against water,” Mattytravel.photos wrote.

“[C]hild got extra clothes, parents don’t have,” Deejayelleo wrote.
