‘Smart’ housekeeping cuts costs at Changi Airport

A new working system at the Singapore Changi Airport has cut manpower needs by five percent and costs by $2 million at the Group.

300 members of staff are reported to have been equipped with smartphones, which allow them to report things like toilet repairs in record time.

Some of the working habits developed by software installed in the phones include taking photos or videos of faults and disseminating them to outsourced contractors and calling up a checklist specific to the employee’s job scope.

The new system called e-Inspection is also used by the management to spot and troubleshoot recurring problems.

The Changi Airport Group is looking to using the same system in other processes, including runway maintenance.
