Our annual National Day Parade (NDP) is coming up. If that doesn’t mean much to you besides a day off from work, you probably wouldn’t be too bothered about missing out on the biggest military tattoo performance in NDP history. Or the showcase of 300 unmanned drones in the skies — which will apparently be Southeast Asia’s biggest such display. Or the signature bomb burst manoeuvre at the aerial fly-past. Or the fact that this year’s parade will celebrate national servicemen (this being Singapore’s 50th year of National Service and all).
Anyway, if you’d still like a splash of patriotic vibes come Aug 9, skip the crowds at the Marina Bay Floating Platform and hop on board one of the NDP-themed trains — if you manage to spot them. Launched yesterday morning, the four special edition trains will run on the North-South/East-West Lines, the North-East Line, the Circle Line and the Downtown Line until Aug 27.
They’re even decked out with images of fighter jets in the skies on the ceiling and fireworks displays on the walls, should you feel a twinge of disappointment at missing out on the pyrotechnics in real life.
