SJ50 campaign launched to celebrate 50 years of relations between Singapore and Japan

You’ve heard of SG50 — and probably sick of hearing about it too — but hold on to your seats for its sequel: SJ50

SJ50 is the new campaign launched yesterday that celebrates 50 years of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Japan. Already, logos, stickers, dolls and other SJ50 paraphernalia have been launched to commemorate the occasion. The mascot for Japan is of course their iconic Hello Kitty. The mascot for Singapore is a poorly conceived creature called Doritan, who seems like a genetic fusion of a foetus and a durian.

Hello Kitty doesn’t look too enthusiastic about standing next to the abomination.

Like SG50, this new project will span the whole year with promotions going on in both countries to attract tourists. SJ50 hopes to replicate the buzz and success that its cousin had last year, but that was mainly because SG50 was practically shoved down everyone’s throats.
