SingPost might get into trouble for leaving behind unattended mailbag along Old Airport Road

Aw snap, someone’s getting into pretty colossal shit for this mistake. A hefty bag of mail was left chilling on its own on the street beside a post box along Old Airport Road, with no one attending to it.

The contents of the bag could have been pilfered if not for upstanding passerby Song Seng Wun, who spotted the unattended sack while on the way back to work, and posted it on his Facebook page.

SingPost of course were not too happy to find out about the incident. The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) previously imposed a $30,000 fine on SingPost in 2013 for losing a mailbag in Woodlands after a postal worker lost it while leaving her mail trolley unattended. The mailbag — containing 400 to 500 articles — were never recovered, even after searches were conducted in the area for four days.

TODAY reports that SingPost are currently conducting internal investigations into the recent incident. They were lucky that the mailbag was immediately retrieved, with everything intact.

According to them, the bag had been mistakenly left behind by a driver. “Due disciplinary action” will be taken against him should there be negligence involved.

IDA have also pricked up their ears concerning the matter, and may impose a financial penalty on SingPost again should they be found breaching license conditions or regulatory requirements.
