Records are continually broken and another gold medal is awarded to Singapore’s beloved sprinter who has been on her game in the past year.
Shanti Pereira, 26, took home gold in the women’s 200m final with a timing of 22.69s at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
She smashed her own record of 22.89s which is also Singapore’s national record as well as breaking the SEA Games record of 23.01s.
Vietnam’s Thi Nhi Yen Tran took home silver (23.54s) followed by Malaysian Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli (23.6s), the Philippines’ Kristina Knott (23.79s), and fellow Singaporean Elizabeth-Ann Tan (24.03s).
Tan was the first to give Pereira a big hug after the big win. Pereira was all smiles while holding up the Singapore flag proudly.
Pereira previously won the 200m gold with a time of 23.52s at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi.
Last month, she broke national records and won both women’s 100m and 200m races at the Australian Open Track and Field Championships in Brisbane.
