Yesterday, Minister for National Development (MND) Khaw Boon Wan published a blog post expressing his excitement at the prospect of cutting labour costs by using robots to perform menial tasks such as floor tiling.
The Singapore-ETH Centre Future Cities Laboratory and ROB Technologies have already conceptualised and fabricated a robotic tiling prototype.
“If the robot becomes commercially available, the estimate is that the robotic tiling machine can lay tiles two to three times faster than the human tiler. An added advantage is that robots can deliver high precision and consistent quality,” Khaw wrote.
He also added that the technology will not only benefit productivity, it will also lessen the risk of worksite accidents.
