Singapore’s historical street maps now available to public

If you’ve ever wondered how one navigated the streets of Singapore back in the 1950s, wonder no more.

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has released 23 editions of old street maps dating from 1954 to 2009 to the public, all available for free download via OneMap.

The maps were released in conjunction with the recent launch of the Data In The City campaign to mark Singapore’s 50th birthday next year. Participants are invited to gather information through the government’s numerous open data catalogues online to visualise data and chart the country’s progress throughout the past five decades of our independence and beyond.

SLA’s Chief Executive Vincent Hoong expressed his enthusiasm for the release of the historical street maps, hoping that Singaporeans can use it to generate “interesting geo-visualizations of Singapore’s development over the years to commemorate SG50”.
