Now you can get hot meals, snacks and drinks 24/7 from a ‘vending machine cafe’ — if you live in Sengkang, that is. Singapore’s first VendCafe was launched yesterday morning at the unassuming void deck of Block 320C Anchorvale Drive, in a space consisting of numerous machines that dispense a variety of local and international foods such as chicken bolognese, nasi goreng, seafood hor fun, cookies and sandwiches. All you need is cash, Nets FlashPay or your credit card to pay for the almost-instant meal.
This year-long pilot project comes courtesy of Spring Singapore and the Housing and Development Board, and is operated by JR Vending, the same company behind the Chef-in-Box vending machines.
But residents in other neighbourhoods need not get envious. This is merely the beginning of a new wave of food vending machines that will pop up across the country in the near future. According to The Straits Times, it’s part of a government initiative to reduce the constantly increasing need for manpower in the food and beverage industry.
