Singapore’s eco-tourism paradise in Mandai might be completed ahead of schedule

Calling all local nature lovers: ever wanted to experience what it’s like to walk through lush green jungles and interact with wildlife from all over the globe? Sure, we have the Zoo and Bird Park for that — but things are gonna be taken up to the next level in the upcoming years.

If you’ve been keeping up with the announcement of the revamping of Mandai’s natural wildlife habitats, new details have been unveiled at today’s ground-seeding ceremony by Mandai Park Holdings (MPH).

The main highlights of this project are primarily the new Bird Park – where many different bird species converge from countries like Africa and Australia – and the Rainforest Park, which promises to takes its visitors on a trail throughout the lush greenery of Southeast Asian jungles. The new Rainforest Park will be developed around the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari, with entrances connected by walking trails and boardwalks along Upper Seletar Reservoir. There’ll even be a waterfall greeting visitors at the entrance of the new Bird Park. Accommodation options will also be available at the east entrance to nature-themed indoor attractions.

Gracing today’s ceremony, Minister for Trade and Industry Mr S Iswaran stated that the five parks combined are expected to see an approximate number of 4.6 million visitors per year.

He also added that “with a strong focus on conservation and sustainability, Mandai will be a hub for nature education and research as well as a leading nature destination in Asia”, and expressed confidence that this project would help enhance Singapore’s identity as a Garden City.

“We plan to offer highly differentiated experiences at each of our five wildlife parks, augmented by indoor displays and a variety of food and beverage offerings”, stated Mike Barclay, CEO of MPH.

“With the attractive public spaces and more opportunities to stay overnight, we hope to encourage families and groups of friends to spend more time enjoying and appreciating Mandai’s extraordinary wildlife offerings.”

The good news? The forecast for the Bird Park’s and Rainforest Park’s completion dates are 2020 and 2021 respectively.
